- Visit Sand Dunes
Between Hundar and Diskit villages lie several kilometres of marvellous sand dunes surrounded by mountains and two-humped camel. Riding the desert from two-humped camel will be an experience. Do not miss sunset here. golden sun-rays travelling from sand, mountains gives picture-perfect view.
2. Maitreya Buddha and Diskit Monastery
The 32 metre Maitreya Buddha statue is the landmark of Nubra Valley and is maintained by the Diskit Monastery. Diskit Monastery is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley. This place gives magnificent views of Nubra Valley.
Turtuk is northernmost village in Nubra valley. It is only village in India from Balti region after this village Pakistan occupied baltistan begins. Turtuk opened for tourists in 2010. The Royal House in Turtuk gives historical richness of Balti culture. Descendants of Prince of Turtuk still lives in this house. They have maintained Balti costumes, weapons in house museum; it will be offbeat one-time experience. It is 2.5 hours scenic drive from Diskit village in Nubra valley.
4. Panamik Village
Panamik village is known for hot water springs. It is on 2 hours drive from Diskit village. Hot water springs in Panamik contains high amount of sulphur and considered to be of high medicinal properties. Also visit 250 years old Ensa Monastery for great spiritual experience. Many travellers trek from Panamik village to Ensa Monastery.
5. Tso Moriri lake
This is one hidden gem on Manali Leh highway. The lake is at an altitude of 4,522 m (14,836 ft). It is largest high altitude lake entirely within India. Camping near lake is prohibited. Best way to enjoy the beauty of lake is to have home-stay in village Karzok, it enriches you with cultural warmness. Most of the village houses give lakeview at minimal cost. It is on 7 hours drive from Nubra Valley and 5 hours from Leh. I bet if you like Pangong lake; you must visit Tsomoriri lake.
