4 days Trek to Beas Kund is one serene trail making its way through biggest mountains in Manali. This hidden gem is the origin of Beas River. The trail leading to Beas Kund offers multiple freshwater streams, melting glaciers, wildflowers and lush green scenery. This is perfect himalayan trek for beginners. My recommendation will be to do maximum 4-5 hours of trek in one day and return can be in single day. This itinerary will help you to plan your trek.
Trekking Essentials: Warm cloths, water, food, trekking pole, Trekking shoes (no marketing but Action trekking are best and reasonable shoes. I have done 60+ treks with single pair of shoes)
Budget: ₹7,000-₹9,000 (including transport)
Best season: June till September.
Day 1: Arrive at Solang Nallah (Solang Valley)
Your first glimpse of Solang valley will awe you with its giant slopes, surrounding of deodar trees. In winter it is generally crowded by ski-lovers. paragliding, parachuting and horse riding are popular sports and pretty reasonable. You can enjoy any of these activities on your first day.
Day 2: Trek from Solang Valley to Dhundi (9,300 feet)
Today you will trek for 3-4 hours through deodar trees on paved trail to village Dhundi. Your companions on trail will be birds chirping on trees, lush greenery, stand tall mountains and small water streams. You can cover this distance by drive but trekking will help you to get acclimatized to the weather. Set your first camp at Dhundi and enjoy rest of the day exploring Himalayan beauty.
Day 3: Trek from Dhundi to Bakarthach (10,685 feet)
This is the middle point between Dhundi village and Beas Kund. It is 2-3 hours trek. This is also base camp of ABVIMAS. Mountain tops covered in snow and ground covered in lush green creates picturesque view. At night do not miss beautiful starry night and Milky way. On my camp at Bakarthach, the morning outside the tent was with hundreds of wild goats. I spent my morning playing and cuddling with them. It was exceptionally pretty and unusual experience for me.
Day 4: Trek from Bakarthach to Beas Kund (12,204 feet)
On Day 4 you will trek to your destination; Beas Kund. The trek will be for 3-4 hours. It will be more adventurous than Day 3. There will be a crossing of rocky patch, freezing cold water streams to reach the Kund. As you go closer to the Beas Kund, you will feel blessed by seeing how the glacier melting creates the source of river giving water to nearby city, villages.. There is small temple in front of Beas Kund. There is small path to hike little above the Kund to get different perspective. It is beautiful from all angles. You are allowed to put campsite near Beas Kund or you can choose to come back to Campsite Bakarthach.
Day 5: Return to Dhundi
Day 5 will be return journey to Dhundi village. It will be full descend. You can comfortably descend in a day. Make sure you make arrangement for cab preferably the one who dropped you on first day to bring you back to the city. On return you can enjoy some days in exploring Old Manali.
On your trek if you are lucky you may find your companion; A Himalayan Dog till summit. We found our ‘Kutturam’ at Dhundi Village on first day. He used to eat with us, sleep just outside our tent and protect us from other wild dogs. He was our soulmate for 4 days. My this article is dedicated to him.
I would love to hear your trekking experiences in below comment section.
