Mauritius is a gorgeous island in the middle of blue waters of Indian Ocean. The island is not just limited to its serene beaches; its flora and fauna, hiking, waterfalls, nightlife, museums and cuisines are worth experiencing. It is one of the best destinations to have leisure travel with not much stress on your wallet. Many countries are exempt from visa to visit Mauritius. You can reach Mauritius fastest by flight but another magical way is to take cruise to Mauritius island.
Below itinerary will help you to plan your 7 days visit to Mauritius. At the end of article you will find customized maps for your quick reference.
- lle aux cerfs (Day 1)
It is privately owned island in the sapphire blue lagoon. This is tourists’ most favorite destination in Mauritius. Travelers visit the island in boats from the village Trou d’Eau Douce. There are just 3 beach restaurants on the island and they offer great local mouth-watering food and local home-made rum. Get mesmerized by scenic beauty of miles of fine white beaches and aquamarine waters. Make the most of this leisurely day either sunbathing or enjoying the turquoise lagoon and the numerous water sports. Don’t miss swimming in the middle of ocean when you go in for water sports.
2. Port Louis (Day 2)
It is capital of Mauritius. The architectures of buildings reflect rich French colonial history. You can visit the Indian Tamil Temple, Saint James Cathedral, Jummah Mosque, the elegant five-tier colonial Port Louis Theatre (Théâtre de Port-Louis), the Champ de Mars Racecourse, and Pagoda. Also, don’t miss visiting Mauritius Museums Council to know interesting facts on Dodo; a huge bird which existed till 17th century only on Mauritius Island.
3. Flic En Flac (Day 3)
This white sandy beach is famous among tourists. It has luxury resorts with heavenly views. We stayed at Anelia Resort & Spa; it was perfect beach experience with the best food, infinity pool and spa. Experience vibrant local performances and cultural music arranged by resorts. My recommendation is to stay at Flic En Flac being closest to many attractions in Mauritius. Don’t forget to try Phoenix Lemon flavored local Beer.
4. Casela National Park (Day 4)
This is the best place for kids to get closer to wildlife. African safari at the park is unique experience of Zebras, Ostrich, Rhinos and many other exotic animals, feeding Giraffe, Camel is a thing not to miss. The safari is in open bus, quad biking, Segway; the way you choose. There are many adventurous mountain activities like bridge crossing, zipline. Feel the power of interacting one to one with lions and tigers in observation of animal-handlers in the park. It is on just 10 minutes drive from Flic En Flac beach.
5. Trou aux Cerfs (Day 5)
It is a dormant volcano surrounded by lush greenery. As per locals the crater was formed about 2 million years ago in the second phase of volcanic activity that created Mauritius. It is visible from the hills around. It is on 30 minutes drive from Casela National park.
6. Grand Bassin (Day 5)
Grand Bassin is a crater lake in secluded mountains. It is also known as Ganga Talao. There are temples on the bank of lake. It is most sacred hindu place in Mauritius. The huge statues of Lord Shiva and Durga Mata are tallest in Mauritius. It is on 20 minutes drive from Trou aux Cerfs.
7. Chamarel Waterfall and Seven colored earth (Day 6)
Chamarel waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery of Black River Gorges on west coast. Upper side of waterfall is visible from seven colored earth. These colored wavy sand dunes smoothly settle in your eyes and give a unique picture of nature. You can see the place on Quad bike. On the way you can see giant tortoises.
8. Hiking in Le Morne (Day 7)
It is the best thing to do to conclude your trip. After 3-4 hours trek to the top of mountain will get phenomenal view of Indian Ocean. Make sure you start your trek early so that you can reach the top in full light and enjoy different shades of Ocean. Keep enough water and food and stay hydrated.
